You come home, or wake up, and the jewellery box has been gone through. Rings, watches, a necklace that meant something — taken in the time it takes to search a couple of drawers. The shock is bad enough. Then the insurer asks you to describe, in detail, exactly what was in there.
Why this is one of the hardest claims to make
Jewellery and watches are personal, often collected over years — gifts, inheritances, pieces bought for milestones. Most people have never photographed them properly, and fewer still have kept valuations or receipts, especially for older pieces.
Without a description, a photo, or a valuation, insurers have very little to work with. Sentimental value doesn't translate into a payout — specific, provable detail does.
What makes a claim actually work
- A clear photo of each piece, ideally with any hallmark or engraving visible
- Purchase receipts or valuations, where you have them
- A rough description and estimated value for anything you don't have paperwork for
- All of it stored somewhere other than the same house the jewellery's kept in
Where My Asset Mate comes in
My Asset Mate lets you photograph and log jewellery and watches properly — what it is, roughly what it's worth, any paperwork you have — kept safely on your phone, and in the cloud too if you choose.
If the worst happens, you're not trying to describe pieces from memory while you're upset. You open the app, and there's a proper record, ready for your insurer.
Ten minutes with your jewellery box now can make the difference between a fair payout and a knock-back later.
